Create an Owner Absentee Affiliate Website
Many website owners use affiliate links to provide additional income from their site. These are hyperlinks, or more often banner ads, that are usually placed on the left or right hand margins of your website. They are active links, that when a visitor to your site clicks on one, it takes them directly to the website of the product or service that is advertised. Your visitor is actually tracked from your site to the affiliate’s site using software (on the affiliate’s site). If the visitor makes a purchase on the affiliate site, you earn a commission.
Have you heard of affiliate websites? An example (on a large scale) is a comparison-shopping site such as Travelocity.com or Hotels.com. Visitors to these sites are there to find the best prices on items concerning a particular car rental, flight or hotel. If the visitor makes a hotel room purchase, the hotel provides the product or service while the comparison-shopping site that sent them the customer gets a commission.
What if you could have a (near) owner absentee website that generates income? The purpose of the site then is not to sell items that you have to stock and ship. The purpose is to produce content rich web pages on niche subjects, or a niche comparison-shopping site, that generates considerable traffic. You then simply place Google AdSense ads and Affiliate links on the site. If a visitor to your site clicks on a Google ad, you get paid. If the visitor clicks a banner ad, it takes them to the affiliate’s website. If they make a purchase, you earn a commission.
It is (near) owner absentee because you do not stock or ship any products or provide any services. You would get paid just a few dollars each day from the site. But what if you had three, five or even 10 sites? Could you make any money? The answer is yes as long as you can keep your website costs at a minimum, and you can attract enough traffic.
If you have never created one of these sites before, the learning curve can be steep requiring considerable time and effort. Therefore, I don’t bother to create them myself. I let the pros create the initial site for me with all the required tracking engines to commission clearinghouses. Once I get the site, it takes me about 40 hours to setup all the affiliate sites and products for the particular niche market. This process requires a touch of HTML editing. If you are not comfortable doing this, or you don’t have the time, you can purchase this service from the same pros who designed your site.
Once your site is complete, it will take only 1-2 hours per week to get the required traffic to make it work. A full explanation on how to get the traffic is provided along with your website.
